Jessica Funke, an athletic training and sports medicine student from Marion, said the $400 she won in a raffle designed to reward Western Carolina University students who complete online course evaluations was the easiest $400 she ever earned.
Filling out evaluations for each of her seven classes took, at most, 15 minutes, said Funke, a junior at WCU.
“The raffle wasn’t even on my mind when I took the surveys, which I had been putting off,” said Funke. “Finally, I thought, `Well, I guess I should do that.’ I’m glad I did.”
She said she plans to spend her winnings on dressy attire, which students in her program wear to class during their senior year.
The raffle’s grand prize winner was offered either an iTouch or $400 cash equivalent. Twenty other students won $40 gas cards.
WCU moved to an online evaluation system in the fall, and the raffle was designed by the Faculty Senate task force on student assessment of instruction to encourage students to complete the evaluations online after they receive instructions through campus e-mail.
