The Counseling Center
The Counseling Center Counseling and Psychological Services offers individual, couple, and group counseling and related services to the campus community. The Center works closely with numerous campus organizations and departments in coordination of the Center's provision of 24-hour on-call coverage for psychological emergencies and in various outreach and consultation services. Each year, the Center offers training positions for graduate students in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and Social Work programs.

The Training Experience
-
Individual counseling with clients whose presenting problems range from developmental or adjustment concerns to more serious mental illness and/or personality disorders.
-
Co-leadership of psycho-educational groups (such as assertiveness, relaxation training) or psychotherapy groups (such as for relationship problems, children of dysfunctional families).

Intake interviews, assessments and crisis intervention services.
-
Outreach and consultation programs with the campus community.

Supervision utilizing video and audio tapes, case presentations, training & professional development.
Requirements

Successful completion of core graduate level course work in Counseling, or Counseling or Clinical Psychology or related field.

Endorsement of graduate program for readiness to participate in this four to six month full-time internship (internship length and weekly hours are negotiable).

Coordination with member of graduate faculty to establish experience objectives, evaluation criteria, and feedback procedures.

Other Graduate-level Training Positions
In addition, unpaid graduate-level practicum positions are also available. These typically are the first applied experience in counseling-related graduate program with a primary emphasis upon developing basic counseling skills for intakes, individual, and group counseling. Those interested should follow the same application process below.
