Students will gather at the tower at noon for the mile-long trek along N.C. Highway 107 to the recreation center. At the center, they can register to vote and then cast their ballots in this year’s local, statewide and national races under North Carolina’s “No Excuse” absentee voting system.
“All students are invited to this event,” said William Styles, a political science major who is organizing the nonpartisan march. “The purpose is to let the campus and the community see how young people are involved in this year’s elections and in the governmental process, and to show everyone that young people can make a difference.”
Styles, the son of Bill and Barbara Styles of Bryson City and president of the WCU College Democrats, said he expects 40 to 50 students to participate in the march. They will return to campus via public transit or carpool with friends.
