It is important that you complete the NC TEACH application process as early as possible. Given the current volume of applications, course availability may be limited if you apply after the posted deadline. We make every effort to enroll qualified applicants, especially lateral entry teachers, even if the deadline has passed.
Step One
Check out eligibility requirements to see if this program is right for you. You may also want to check out alternative licensure tuition and fees and distance education tuition and fees for information about the costs of the program and financial aid opportunities.
Step Two
Find out what courses are required to receive a license in your chosen area.
Complete the Eligibility/Pre-Evaluation Form online and submit one official copy of transcripts. A program adviser will develop a plan of study that will satisfy licensure/MAT requirements.
Step Three
Apply to Western. Depending on your plan of study, you will:
- Apply online to Western’s Graduate School as a teacher certification student and pay the $40.00 nonrefundable application fee (Note: As of April 14, 2008 paper applications will no longer be accepted.)
OR - Apply online as an undergraduate teacher certification student to Western’s admissions office and pay the nonrefundable $40.00 application fee (this may be waived for former applicants).
Step Four
Complete the application process by sending the following to the Office of Alternative Licensure at the address below:
- Personal statement—an essay outlining the reasons you have decided to enter the teaching profession
- Signed plan of study
