Student Affairs Mission Statement:
In support of the mission of the University, the Division of Student Affairs is committed to student personal, social, and intellectual development of students as they live and learn within a diverse community. Programs, services, outreach activities and facilities enhance the ability of current and prospective students to apply learning outcomes as they develop independent thought, take advantage of community involvement, and understand global responsibility.
Kneedler’s Mission Statement:
In support of the Student Affairs and University mission, the Kneedler Child Development Center is committed to providing high quality childcare for the students, faculty and staff of WCU. The center is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible childcare for families within a diverse community. This will aid the University in its efforts to recruit and retain exceptional students, faculty and staff. In addition, the center will serve as a teaching site for observations, practicum experiences, research and internships for students at WCU. While supporting the academic programs of the University, we will encourage opportunities for personal, social and intellectual development.
Program Outcomes:
Kneedler Child Development seeks to provide quality services for children and families by providing:
- Quality Child Care
- Operating hours that meets the needs of their work and school schedules.
- Subsidized childcare for those families that need financial assistance to cover childcare cost.
- High level of cleanliness that meets and exceeds the standards of the Jackson County Health Department and sanitation regulations.
- Curriculum that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of all children.
- Classroom teachers that provide a nurturing and safe environment for all children.
- Facility that meets and exceeds all North Carolina Day Care regulations and Head Start Performance Standards.
In Addition, Kneedler Child Development in conjunction with WCU will:
- Provide high quality childcare services for the students, faculty and staff of WCU.
- Work with academic departments to use the childcare center as a teaching and practicum site.
- Provide early childhood experience for students who use the childcare center as a teaching and practicum site.
- Work jointly with faculty from Birth/Kindergarten Program to provide training opportunities for classroom teachers
- Collaborate with the WCU Service Learning Program to provide an early childcare facility for prospective volunteers.
- Work to achieve a 5 star rating from the North Carolina Department of Child Development.
Assessment Measures:
- Satisfaction survey completed by parents
- Federal PRISM Review for Head Start classes
- North Carolina Daycare Regulation Inspections
- Jackson County Health Department Sanitation Inspections
Assessment Criteria:
- Create and implement an effective and individualized survey for our program
- Identify areas that need improvement
- Identify areas where families are satisfied and very satisfied.
- Obtain 90% positive response in all surveyed areas
- Use information gained in a manner that improves service to children and families.
