The accountancy program in Western Carolina University’s College of Business and Graduate School will hold an annual “Meet the Firms Night” from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the Owen Conference Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
“Meet the Firms Night,” a cooperative effort involving businesses and educational institutions in the Western North Carolina region, is held to enlighten prospective accounting professionals about the career opportunities in the field.
In addition to several international accounting firms such as Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Asheville-based and regional firms will be represented. They include Johnson Price & Sprinkle, Gould Killian CPA Group, and Gabler Molis & Company, based in Asheville; and Southeastern firms Dixon Hughes, Reznick Group, and Elliott Davis.
“The local market for accountants remains strong. A firm like Dixon Hughes will hire more than 200 new staff accountants in a single year,” said Susan Swanger, director of the master’s degree program in accountancy at WCU. “Our master’s program provides a pipeline of recruits to these firms, while UNCA, the community colleges and other educational institutions provide a pipeline to the master’s program.”
The event is free for students and others wishing to explore career opportunities in accounting.
For more information, contact Swanger at (828) 227-3525 or Patsy Miller, director of WCU Programs in Asheville, at (828) 251-6642.
