Students from Western Carolina University’s stage and screen department will bring the world premier of “That’s What We Love About You, Hardy Boys” to Hoey Auditorium April 9-13.
The original student-written play follows in the footsteps of “That’s What We Love About You, Nancy Drew,” last year’s popular student production about mystery-solver Nancy Drew. This year, theater-goers will get to know the Hardy Boys - and the mysteries they solve - through comedy similar to that of Mel Brooks and the popular TV shows “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy.” The play shows the Hardy Boys’ relationships to their hometown, family and friends, including Nancy Drew’s sister.
The musical comedy spoof is a student production from start to finish. Students Sean Nelson, Charles Ellis, Ben Chafetz and Anthony Giordano wrote the original script. Giordano also directed the show. The actors are students from the stage and screen department, with cameo appearances by faculty members Peter Savage and Claire Eye.
Tickets are $5 for everyone with shows at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, through Saturday, April 12, and a matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13. A special midnight show is planned for Thursday, April 10, with tickets at $4 if attendees come dressed in street clothes and $2 if they come in their pajamas.
