"Take a Stand" radio show to broadcast live from WCU April 3
The popular Western North Carolina radio show “Take a Stand” will be broadcasting live from 3 until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 3, from the theater of A.K. Hinds University Center on the campus of Western Carolina University.
Members of the campus and surrounding communities are invited to be part of the studio audience for the live broadcast.
For the first hour of the program, host Matt Mittan will discuss the topic of communications and the news media with WCU faculty and students. Donald Connelly, head of the department of communication, will discuss “new media,” including convergence and digital journalism. William Dulaney, director of oral communication, will examine the effects of new media on society. Christopher Cooper, director of WCU’s master’s degree program in public affairs, will focus on the impact of media on political campaigns.
Following the program’s second hour, which will feature Mittan’s regular listener call-in format, Chancellor John Bardo, Provost Kyle Carter and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Sam Miller will participate in a panel discussion about significant issues facing the university, including enrollment, campus construction, regional engagement and the Quality Enhancement Plan. The panel is scheduled for 5 until 6 p.m.
The live broadcast is part of a Clear Channel of Asheville initiative to highlight colleges and universities in Western North Carolina. The show will be on AM 570 WWNC in Asheville and AM 1400 The Peak in Waynesville. It also can be heard online at the “Take a Stand” Web site, http://www.takeastandshow.com/main.html.
