Break by the Lake

The annual Break by the Lake Conference for Student Service Personnel will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Lake Logan Episcopal Retreat Center in Canton, NC.  Register beginning Friday, July, 31, 2009 through the Human Services Department at Western Carolina University.

The conference is a local opportunity to teach and learn for school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, school nurses, resource officers, school administrators, community counselors, and many others in the educational and helping fields. Click on the following to gain access to the agenda and the printable registration form. Lunch is included in the registration fee (and we hear the food is even better than at Junaluska!)

The guest speaker is Dr. Ron Rash.  A native of the Carolinas, Dr. Rash is a revered professor in Appalachian Cultural Studies at Western Carolina University.  Although Dr. Rash has received awards for his exceptional ability to teach, the majority of his national recognition stems from his creation of poetry, short stories, novels, and a children's novel.  He writes from a powerful southern tradition, and his settings commonly revolve around mountainous areas.  His works contain issues of environment, family, culture, human nature, death, loss and redemption.  Dr. Rash is a committed writer who emphasizes the importance of perseverance in human growth and development.

Plan to join us this year as we learn in a place of beauty while rejuvenating and connecting with others.
