The One O’Clock Lab Band, from the Univerity of North Texas, will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at WCUs Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The One O’Clock Lab Band, a celebrated jazz ensemble from the University of North Texas, will headline the annual Jazz Festival, from Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, April 12, on the campus of Western Carolina University.
All festival performances will take place in the Fine and Performing Arts Center or the Coulter Building. With the exception of the One O’Clock Lab Band, all performances are free. Festival sponsors include the School of Music; the Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Series; Conn-Selmer Inc. musical instruments; and the student fraternities of Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa PSI.

- Jazz arranging and composition clinic, 2:05 p.m., Room 351, Coulter Building. Vanguard Jazz Orchestra solo trombonist Ed Neumeister will lead.
- WCU Jazz Combos/Tech Ensemble master class, 5-7 p.m., Room 477, Coulter Building. Vanguard Jazz Orchestra solo trombonist Ed Neumeister will lead.
- Catamount Singers, 7:30 p.m., Fine and Performing Arts Center. Bruce Frazier will direct.
Friday, April 11
- Jazz trombone/improvisation clinic, 11:15 a.m., Room 171 (band hall), Coulter Building. Vanguard Jazz Orchestra solo trombonist Ed Neumeister will lead.
- WCU Jazz Ensemble and WCU Jazz Combos, 7:30 p.m., Fine and Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature Ed Neumeister, solo trombonist with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Pavel Wlosok, assistant professor of jazz, will direct.
Saturday, April 12:
- Jazz big band master class, 4 p.m., Fine and Performing Arts Center.
- The One O’Clock Lab Band, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Fine and Performing Arts Center. The band, sponsored by Western’s Lectures, Concerts & Exhibitions Series, includes five saxophones, five trumpets, five trombones, guitar, piano, bass and drum set. Neil Slater directs. This show is free for Western students; $5 for WCU employees, senior citizens and non-WCU students; and $10 for the general public.
