Participation Guidelines
  1. Every senior high school may bring ar least two SATB quartets. While one may be incomplete (SAB, SB, SA, a doubling, such as SSBB or SAAB, is discouraged because of balance problems that would undoubtedly exist. Generally, more TENORS and BASSES are needed. If you have additional people in these sections, please register them, and I will notify you if there are any problems. (No girls singing tenor, please)
  2. Schools having choral enrollments (grades 9-12) of 60 or more may bring three quartets; 90 or more, four quartets. For these schools, one of the quartets may be incomplete; i.e., a school with a choral enrollment of 98 might enter the following singers: SATB, SATB, SATB, and SA.
  3. If you have a select balanced small ensemble that you would like to bring, but they do not fit the "number" requirements in #2 above, please contact me. If the numbers can be accommodated, we will be pleased to have them.
  4. Choral directors are responsible for selecting partipants at their schools. Obviously, we prefer your best singers, and you are the person most qualified to make those judgements.
  5. Sight-reading is not a requirement for selection, but thorough music preparation is a must. The success of this festival depends to a large degree upon the efforts of individual directors in rehearsing the music.
  6. Each year, we have a solo/small ensemble recital as a way of featuring the talents of high school and university singers and teachers. Please let me know if you would have people interested in performing on this informal program.
