Graduate Programs in Music
Western’s School of Music offers graduate programs in performance and music education. A live audition before a panel of music faculty is required for the M.M. degree in performance, and an audition or interview is required for music education. The M.A.Ed. degree is open to students who have an undergraduate degree in music education. Students with an undergraduate degree in music but not in music education may apply for the M.A.T. degree, which will prepare them for initial licensure in the State of North Carolina. Depending upon the student’s prior study and experience, undergraduate pre-requisites may be specified for M.A.T. candidates.
The following graduate music degrees are conferred at Western Carolina University:
- Master of Music (M.M.) in performance
- Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.)
- Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
Please note that the M.A.Ed. and M.A.T. degrees are administered through the College of Education and Allied Professions. For more information about those programs, please contact the M.A.Ed. Program.
