This Tuesday Evening, the Catamount Concert Series presents the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet in a free concert. The program includes Kerry Turner’s The Casbah of Tetouan, Ingolf Dahl’s Music for Brass Instruments, John Stevens's “Autumn” from Seasons, Morley Calvert’s Suite from the Monteregian Hills and an arrangement of “When the Saints Go Marching In” by Jack Gale. That's this Tuesday at 8pm in the Recital Hall of the Coulter Building.
On Thursday evening, the WCU Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band (John West, music director) present a concert featuring outstanding student musicians. This concert is unique in that it features six outstanding music students as conductors and soloists. After an audition process, three student conductors and three student soloists were selected to perform on this concert.
The three students who will conduct the Symphony Band are Adam Capps, Dustin King and Brandon Meeks. They are all music education majors at WCU. The three student soloists are: Katie Ebert – a graduate student in music education who will perform Weber’s Fantasia and Rondo on clarinet; Tiffany Lamb – a graduate student in music performance who will perform Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C Major; and Corey Parker – a sophomore music education major who will perform James Curnow’s Rhapsody for Euphonium.
This free concert takes place Thursday at 8pm in the Performance Hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
