What do we offer?
Special Education -
B.S.Ed.,
AIG Certification K-12
The special education program actively engages students in the study of exceptionalities and instructional strategies for students with mild to moderate disabilities. This program requires admission to teacher education in the College of Education and Allied Professions. Through the curriculum, students learn to effectively identify and assess various disabilities, teach children and adolescents with learning challenges, and manage classrooms. Students also practice new skills in course-related field experiences, build interpersonal strengths through community-based service learning activities, and tie it all together in a year-long internship their senior year.
With successful completion of the program, you will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and will be recommended to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for Special Education (K-12) initial licensure.
Students who complete the adapted curriculum concentration are eligible for an add-on license which allows them to work with students with severe to profound intellectual disabilities (K-12).
