Western Carolina University will host one of America’s premier memory trainers during “What Was Your Name Again” from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 14, in the Hospitality Room of the Ramsey Regional Activity Center.

Bill Clennan, also known as “the Memory Man,” will lead the workshop for professionals, executives, sales people and anyone else who wants to make a good impression by never forgetting a name.

“Almost everyone has been in the embarrassing position of seeing a person they know they have met, but they just cannot remember the person’s name,” Clennan said. “If you want to remember names, you must train yourself to the get the name, get it correct, immediately, each and every time.”

Using a number of proven techniques, audience participation and humor, Clennan will show participants how to improve business and personal contacts by making lasting impressions.

Clennan said participants in the workshops will learn to attend a meeting of up to 70 people and remember the name of each person in the room. “If you want to have enormous and immediate influence with any group, the best thing you can do is remember all their names,” he said.

“Participants will go away with a new skill they can use immediately,” said Susan Fouts, director of continuing education at WCU. “His humorous approach will keep you laughing and remembering names long after the workshop is over.”

Clennan has given more than 10,000 presentations in his 40-year career and is a member of the Speaker’s Hall of Fame.

Cost for the seminar is $199 per person until March 10, or $249 after March 10. Special discounts are available to any Chamber of Commerce members. Seating is limited and early registration is recommended.
