Personal Statement:

After 24 years in a district in central Oklahoma serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, I decided to flee the comforts of familiarity and accepted a position as assistant professor in Educational Leadership at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After four years preparing a large number of principals, central office administrators, and superintendents for Arkansas and other states, I was recruited back to practice by one of my students. I accepted the position of Director of Elementary Instruction in a Little Rock district. I felt that experiencing central office administration first hand was the missing piece to my credentials. I continued to teach courses as an adjunct until taking on the role of assistant superintendent. I came to NC to serve as deputy superintendent in Gaston County in January of 2004. The call of the mountains led me to the position here with Western (I was raised in Colorado)! I reside in Asheville now and am very excited to be working with the esteemed group of faculty and students at Western. I graduated with a B.S. in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma where I later obtained my M.A. in Educational Administration. I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Supervision, and Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma.
