Old-time, bluegrass jam series to feature Chuck Norris and Daybreak
The 2007-08 old-time and bluegrass music jam session series at Western Carolina University will continue Thursday, Feb. 7, with a performance by Chuck Norris and Daybreak, followed by a jam session in which local musicians are invited to participate.

The band will get the music started with a concert beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center. Performers of old-time and bluegrass music are invited to bring their instruments and take part in the jam session that will follow the presentation.

Norris and Daybreak have been performing traditional bluegrass and gospel music in the region for more than 15 years. Band members include Chuck and Rita Norris of Cullowhee, J.C. Norris of Cullowhee, Mark Austin of Waynesville, and Henry Stephens of Bryson City.

The Mountain Heritage Center’s “Winter Gatherings” will continue through March, with the band Charles Shuler and Friends scheduled to perform in a combination concert/jam on Thursday, March 6. Gatherings on two other Thursdays, Feb. 21 and March 20, will consist entirely of jam sessions. All the events are held from 7 to 9 p.m.

The jam sessions are open to pickers and singers of all ages and experience levels, but also to those who just want to watch and listen.

The Mountain Heritage Center is located on the ground floor of WCU’s H.F. Robinson Administration Building. For more information, call the Mountain Heritage Center at (828) 227-7129.
