The entry-level Master of Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) degree offers students the foundational coursework to become a generalist clinician. Our teaching philosophy and methodology emphasize the unity of theory and practice in a team-based teaching and learning environment.
Students work collaboratively to develop critical thinking while honing their practical skills. We strive to maintain the highest level of professionalism in knowledge, skills, and attitudes to best prepare our graduates to enter any clinical setting.
The program is twenty-four months in length and builds from a strong foundation in the basic sciences (human anatomy, functional anatomy, and human physiology) to the more complex clinical reasoning required for practice in diverse clinical settings.
Clinical logic and physical therapy sciences are courses that develop clinical problem-solving and practice skills. These are threaded throughout the two years of study, providing an ongoing meshing of theory and practice. Each student works within this supportive environment to produce a research or a senior service-learning project as a requirement for graduation. No thesis is required.
Faculty collaborate to integrate content across courses and across the curriculum and utilize diverse educational strategies to actively involve students.
Supervised clinical education experiences are scheduled at the end of almost every semester to allow students to apply information learned in the classroom with patients/clients who have a variety of disabilities. Clinical sites are available in a variety of settings within North Carolina and throughout the United States.
