James Contratto, assistant director for programs at Western Carolina University’s A.K. Hinds University Center, has won a regional New Professional Award for 2007 from the Association of College Unions International.
Contratto (pictured) joined the WCU staff in 2005 and advises Last Minute Productions, the student-run entertainment and activity planning organization at WCU. The organization plans events from comedy acts and movie nights to concerts in Ramsey Regional Activity Center.
He also co-advises the Lectures, Concerts and Exhibitions Series committee, which brings programs to campus such as Bread and Puppet Theater and the Shenandoah Shakespeare Company.
In addition, Contratto served as poetry slam coordinator for the ACUI region that includes Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Contratto earned a master’s degree in college student affairs at Eastern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance at Florida State University.
