Workshops will be held at seven local schools in January. The schedule is Andrews High, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8; Hiwassee Dam, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8; Nantahala, 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9; Cherokee High, 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10; Swain County High, 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10; Blue Ridge, 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14; and Robbinsville High, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
In case of inclement weather, the workshops will be postponed to the following days: Andrews High, Jan. 29; Hiwassee Dam, Jan. 15; Nantahala, Jan. 16; Cherokee High, Jan. 17; Swain County High, Jan. 17; Blue Ridge, Jan. 28; and Robbinsville High, Jan. 22.
WCU’s Talent Search Program provides a full range of college access services, including tutoring, career exploration, interest assessment, classroom workshops, assistance with financial aid forms and college applications, and information about post-secondary institutions. The program at WCU, which serves about 900 students in the five westernmost counties of North Carolina and on the Qualla Boundary, was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as among the top 10 percent of Talent Search programs in the nation.
