Students plan 'Who's Smarter Than a 5th Grader?' event
Western Carolina University students in an elementary education methods and curriculum class are hosting “Who’s Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” – an event inspired by the TV show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

The contest will take place in Illusions Dance and Sport Club on the third floor of A.K. Hinds University Center from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, and will be broadcast on WWCU-FM Power 90.5, the broadcast service of WCU.

Students from WCU, Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, Robbinsville High School and Hiwassee Dam High School will be the contestants, and the “class panel” will include students from Fairview Elementary School in Sylva.

The event is designed to encourage high school and college freshmen and sophomores to consider a career in education. Information and brochures about the elementary and middle grades education department and other opportunities at Western will be available.

For more information, contact Maryanne Maisano, visiting assistant professor of education, by phone at (828) 227-7108 or by e-mail at mmaisano@email.wcu.edu.
