Jerry Boggs, second vice president of the National Emergency Number Association, will join a top administrator from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the director of the N.C. Division of Emergency Management, and an array of federal, state and local officials taking part in the summit. NENA works to foster the technological advancement and implementation of a universal emergency telephone system by promoting research, planning, training and education.

The event, “Emergency and Disaster Leadership Preparedness in the 21st Century: A Summit on Preparing Today’s Leaders for Tomorrow’s Emergencies,” is organized by WCU’s Public Policy Institute. Representatives of emergency, fire, police, sheriff, nonprofit, health and other units across North Carolina that deal with emergencies and disasters will be in attendance.

Corey Gruber, assistant deputy administrator for FEMA’s National Preparedness Directorate and former executive director of the National Preparedness Task Force for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will address “National Preparedness in Emergencies and Disasters: The Challenge Ahead.” Doug Hoell, state emergency management director for the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, will tackle “The Vision for the Future in Emergency and Disaster Preparedness.” Both men are scheduled to speak during the luncheon keynote.
