The Honors College has grown from 77 students in summer 1997 to some 1,400 today. Reynolds and Buchanan Halls are no longer big enough to handle all the Honors students, so the university is creating a large, $44 million residential complex in the center of campus to accommodate everyone.
Some of the most important architectural features, including a lounge above a central archway and a garage band studio in the basement, were suggested by Honors students. The new residence will include a ballroom and six buildings; the first phase is scheduled for completion in January 2009.
