In his book, “Boone,” Morgan explores his subject’s personal motivations, emphasizing his Quaker family roots and the later influence of Masonry within the larger context of a frontier society. He also examines how Boone’s legend as a heroic scout influenced writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Walt Whitman.
A Western North Carolina native, Morgan is the recipient of many honors for his writing. His novel, “Gap Creek,” was a New York Times bestseller and won the Southern Book Award.
