Author Robert Morgan to present lunchtime program Nov. 7 at Heritage Center
11/1/2007 - Author Robert Morgan will discuss his most recent work, a biography about legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone, as the 2007-08 edition of the Appalachian Cultural Lunchtime Series continues Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Center.

In his book, “Boone,” Morgan explores his subject’s personal motivations, emphasizing his Quaker family roots and the later influence of Masonry within the larger context of a frontier society. He also examines how Boone’s legend as a heroic scout influenced writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Walt Whitman.

A Western North Carolina native, Morgan is the recipient of many honors for his writing. His novel, “Gap Creek,” was a New York Times bestseller and won the Southern Book Award.

The Mountain Heritage Center and Ron Rash, WCU’s Parris Distinguished Professor in Appalachian Culture, sponsor the lunchtime series, which includes a 30-minute presentation and an opportunity for visitors to meet the presenter. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch to the program, which will begin at 12:15 p.m. in the museum auditorium.

The Mountain Heritage Center is located on the ground floor of WCU’s H.F. Robinson Administration Building. For more information, call the Mountain Heritage Center at (828) 227-7129.
