Successful completion of the program will lead to a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree with a concentration in middle grades and recommendation for Advanced Competencies licensure from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for teaching in the middle grades.
Candidates for the M.A.T. are also required to successfully complete a portfolio that demonstrates advanced competencies.
Some of the courses required for licensure in the middle grades and for the M.A.T. degree may be earned through the alternative licensure program. For more information, visit WCU’s Office of Alternative Licensure website.
