Organizers of the display are seeking volunteers to assist with several aspects of the event, including guarding the Quilt and greeting visitors during display hours.
Nine panels, each 12 feet by 12 feet in size, will be on display in the A.K. Hinds University Center Grandroom. An opening ceremony will take place at noon in the Grandroom to kick off the event, which will continue until a closing ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. Highlights during the event include an address from Quilt founder Cleve Jones at the closing ceremony and a mid-week performance by musical theatre students.
The event is free and open to the public. Anyone who wishes to donate a panel in memory of a loved one lost to AIDS can request an application outlining specifications.
For more information about the quilt or volunteer opportunities, contact Karrie Joseph, wellness coordinator for WCU’s Wellness Center, at (828) 227-2937 or visit http://paws.wcu.edu/bglad/AIDSquilt.htm.
