Three choral ensembles from Western Carolina University will be performing across the state on a fall tour, including stops in Waynesville, Gastonia and Hendersonville.
The 55-voice WCU Concert Choir, conducted by Robert Holquist, professor of voice and director of choral activities, will perform “And He Shall Purify” from Handel’s “Messiah,” “When I Fall in Love” from the movie “Sleepless in Seattle,” Byrd’s “Ave Verum Corpus,” Dilworth’s “Walk in Jerusalem” and Thompson’s “Alleluia.”
Western’s Early Music Ensemble, an a cappella group of 16 voices also directed by Holquist, will perform the Renaissance carol “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella,” Holquist’s arrangement of “Joy to the World,” Victoria’s “O Magnum Mysterium” and DePearsall’s “When Allen-A-Dale Went A-Hunting.”
Directed by Bruce Frazier, WCU’s Belk Distinguished Professor of Music, the 12-voice Catamount Chamber Singers will perform Carlton’s “Jada Jazz,” George and Ira Gershwin’s “Our Love is Here to Stay” and “Johnson’s “Ain’t Got Time to Die.”
The schedule of performances will include:
Sunday, Oct. 7 – First United Methodist Church, Waynesville, 11 a.m.; and Unity Presbyterian Church, Denver, 7 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 8 – East Lincoln High School, Denver, 8:35 a.m.; East Gaston High School, Mount Holly, 11 a.m.; and Forest View High School, Gastonia, 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 9 – Hunter Huss High School, Gastonia, 10 a.m.; and East Henderson High School, Hendersonville, 2 p.m.
Concluding the tour, the groups will perform its annual home concert in Western’s Coulter Building Recital Hall at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
