Profession: Technical Director, Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Wilmington, N.C. and Sampson County Agri-Expo Center, Clinton, N.C.
Work: Maintain facilities and theatrical equipment and provide technical production services for performing arts series including dance, theatre, and musical performances. Coordinate facility usage with rental clients and insure the safety and responsible use of equipment within the venue. Estimate budgets, and manage payroll for overhire crew and part-time technical staff.
Why Western? I saw a rehearsal of "Time of Your Life" [William Saroyan play]
and thought the department did good work.
Your Western experience: Challenging in many ways, but it provided a level of practical experience unavailable in many undergraduate programs.
How did your studies contribute to your career choice? [They] solidified a choice I had already made. My time at Western gave me the confidence to commit to my love of theatre.
Advice for students: Worry about graduation before you worry about getting a job. The faculty at Western will prepare you for one, but can't force you to do the other.
Into the future: I would like to start my own production company and work with my friends in the industry to produce thought-provoking, profitable theatre in a major market.
