WCU is a University of North Carolina Campus
Emergency Medical Care (EMC) Program
The first Emergency Medical Care (EMC) program in the nation, WCU's EMC Program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Education Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP). And, we’re one of only fourteen institutions in the nation offering the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Emergency Medical Care.

Our exceptional program and faculty members are available to you here on the Cullowhee campus and at your own location through our online program. Approximately two thirds of our students are enrolled in the online program.

As a WCU EMC student, during completion of your paramedic studies you will concentrate in one of two areas: health services management or science.

  • The health services management concentration includes courses in business and health care administration and is intended for students pursuing an administrative role upon graduation.
  • If you’re planning to continue your studies following graduation, you’ll find the science concentration a convenient means of completing prerequisite courses for medical or graduate school.

WCU's EMC Program has a rich history of quality instruction in emergency medicine. Our graduates have pursued careers as paramedics, educators, physicians, physician assistants, researchers, and Emergency Medical Services administrators.

In addition to the professional opportunities that await you when you graduate, you'll soon have a chance to study EMC at the graduate levela course of study is planned for fall 2008.
