Who am I?
That’s an interesting question. I am lots of things, including athlete and admission professional. I attended high school in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and was able to excel in sports as a student-athlete at Orangeburg-Wilkinson. I was recruited to play NCAA Division I basketball here at Western, where I earned my bachelor’s degree. My graduation may not have been national news, but the fact that I was the first collegiate player to make the three-point shot certainly was. In fact, my achievement is now honored in the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. More recently, I earned my master’s degree here at Western. This wonderful place has allowed me to meet and develop friendships around the world. I know it can be that kind of place for you, too.
Why Western?
I definitely think Western is a place that offers a wealth of experiences worth passing one to future generations. From its great location to the vast array of academic areas of study, Western offers the best of both worlds: academia and the mountains. Here you’ll find an emphasis on experiential learning to help you prepare for the career of your choice. And what could be better than studying in a place like Western North Carolina, where the opportunities for hiking, whitewater rafting, snow skiing, and other outdoor activities are seemingly boundless?
