Who am I?
I was born and raised on the Tennessee side of the mountains, in Chattanooga. I earned my bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in journalism at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and my master’s in higher education administration at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I spent 18 years in New England working on both publicly supported and private campuses, shoveling a lot of snow, and exploring the region’s cities and small towns.
Why Western?
Like most admission directors, I worked at quite a few institutions while building my career, among them the University of Tennessee, the University of Massachusetts, Northeastern University, and Babson College. I came back home to the South because, let’s face it, once a Southerner, always a Southerner. And I chose Western for my next career step because I am a product of publicly supported higher education and I believe in the public-school missions of access and opportunity. Western appealed to me because of its location in the mountains and its fine academic reputation. On no other campus have I felt such a sense of strong community and deep commitment to students. Come to Western and I think you’ll see what I mean.
