BSN Pre-Licensure Program FAQs
1. What does completing the BSN at Western enable me to do?

Completion of the BSN at Western qualifies you to apply to sit for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Exam for the RN). After you receive your license you can practice as a registered nurse in many different nursing specialties. The BSN also provides you with the platform to pursue graduate education in nursing.

2. Does admission to Western also mean I’m admitted to the nursing program?

No. Admission to the nursing program is competitive and separate from admission to the university. Visit the BSN program homepage for more information. You must be admitted to WCU prior to applying to our program.

3. What courses do I need to take to qualify me for admission to the program?

In addition to the liberal study sequence, you will need to take courses in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and psychology. You must pass each with a C or better. You also will need to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or better and have strong verbal SAT scores. Visit the BSN curriculum page to find out more.

4. How long does the program take?

The BSN normally takes eight semesters, and you must have 128 credit hours to graduate.

5. Where can I find out more information?
