New payroll deduction system approved for WCU parking permits
The cost of parking on campus just got a little easier to handle for Western Carolina University faculty and staff.
The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved a change in previously adopted parking fees for the 2007-08 year to enable employees to pay the cost through payroll deduction. Although the annual cost for a parking permit increases to $60 for faculty and staff under the new plan, payroll deduction will allow employees to pay $5 per month for on-campus parking privileges.
“Western has very low parking fees compared to other colleges and universities across the state, but we also recognize that it can be difficult for some employees to pay the entire cost of a parking permit at the beginning of the academic year,” Chuck Wooten, vice chancellor for administration and finance, told the board. “This change will help these individuals with their personal financial budgets.”
In addition, payroll deduction will allow employees to pay for parking permits on a pre-tax basis, Wooten said.
The parking fee change does not impact WCU student parking fees, which will remain at $53 per year.
