Getting Started
Trust me, the first step is finding a great topic that interests you.  Do yourself a big favor and choose a topic that will engage you throughout the research process, rather than realize midway that you are bored.  You will want to choose something for which you have a genuine sense of curiosity.  It helps to browse recent editions of educational journals related to your area of study.  Many great educational journals are available in print at Hunter Library and our sister libraries located on the UNCA campus in Asheville and the ASU campus in Boone. Just stop by the reference desk and ask where current editions of print journals are located.

The bulk of our educational journal content is available online, as online subscriptions replace and greatly expand upon our print collection.

Here is a selected list of educational journals availalbe online through Hunter Library. One helpful strategy for topc exploration is to scan the tables of contents to see what catches your eye.  I guarantee there is a topic out there that you want or need to know more about.

During the exploration phase, it helps to get some background information.  One great source is the Encyclopedia of Education, available in print at Hunter Library and also online.  If you come to Hunter Library, be sure to look for these great education reference sources. There are also many educational research handbooks available on a range of educational topics.

I’ve also selected several websites that offer overviews of important educational issues.
