The series will begin with a performance by Golden Globe winner Linda Lavin on Saturday, Sept. 8. Lavin, star of the popular television show “Alice,” will present her one-woman theatrical concert titled “Songs and Confessions of a One-Time Waitress.”
Following in the series on Thursday, Oct. 4, will be comic ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, who was voted Male Stand-Up Comic of the Year at the American Comedy Awards and was said to be “the best there is” by comedian Jay Leno.
On Thursday, Nov. 29, The Animal Band, a group of Nashville musicians, will perform one-of-a-kind songs and entertainment for the whole family.
On Saturday, Dec. 15, the Asheville Symphony will present “A Holiday Spectacular.”
Taking the stage Friday, Feb. 1, will be The Spencers with “Theatre of Illusion.” Known as “modern-day Houdinis,” The Spencers will perform a magic show with a theatrical approach.
Next in the series will be The Cypress String Quartet on Friday, Feb. 29. The quartet will accompany a documentary about America with classical repertoire in a show titled “Inspired by America.”
On Friday, March 14, the All-American Boys Choir will perform its “Salute to America and Her Music,” with hits ranging from Broadway selections to music of the Beach Boys.
Pianist Jim Witter will perform “The Long and Winding Road,” a multi-media tribute to The Beatles, on Friday, April 18.
Concluding the series will be “Incredible Feets” by the Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble on Saturday, May 3. The six dancers and three musicians will entertain audiences with clogging and traditional bluegrass music.
All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the main performance hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The Animal Band, Cypress String Quartet and Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble are available for school matinees.
Series subscriptions for the entire nine-show series will be available beginning June 1 for adults, senior citizens, and WCU faculty and staff at a price of $140, and for students ages 5 and older at a price of $45.
Tickets for all performances will be available beginning on Aug. 20 and are $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens ages 60 and older, $20 for WCU faculty and staff, $15 for groups of 15 or more, and $5 for students.
