The camp will offer rising sixth- through eighth-graders the opportunity to explore construction of homes, roads, buildings and bridges through a variety of activities.
“This workshop is a great opportunity for youth to get hands-on experience to understand what it is like to build a structure or manage a construction project,” said Susan Fouts, director of continuing education at WCU.
Participants will study structures such as the Eiffel Tower to learn how they were built, Fouts said. “The students will look at the relationship between a structure’s design and its strength,” she said.
Students also will examine the planning of a construction project and the limitations of locations, environmental concerns and regulatory agencies.
The camp is offered by the Kimmel School of Construction Management and Technology, and the Division of Educational Outreach.
Cost for the camp is $49. Class size is limited and early registration is encouraged.
