Karen Kandl, adjunct assistant professor of biology at WCU, will lead a nature hike to find salamanders at Pinnacle Park, located on Fisher Creek Road near Sylva. Participants will have an opportunity to collect and observer several species of salamanders.
To reach Pinnacle Park, drive north from Sylva on Skyland Drive, turn left onto Fisher Creek Road, and drive about three miles to the end of the pavement, then straight ahead into the small unpaved parking area. The entrance to the parking area could pose a problem for low-clearance vehicles.
Part of the museum’s “Nature’s Tracks” series, the program is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call the Mountain Heritage Center at (828) 227-7129.
