Teacher Work Sample
The Teacher Work Sample (TWS) provides a written record of the ways the candidate plans instruction, teaches lessons, and learns from the teaching experience. At Western Carolina University, we expect our teacher candidates to positively affect their students’ learning. We also expect our candidates to demonstrate their ability to teach “responsively,” that is, to plan lessons based on the needs of their students and adapt their instruction to meet these needs. The TWS documents this accomplishment for the cooperating teacher, the university and academic supervisors, and the candidate’s own professional development. The TWS is completed during internship or student teaching and may be submitted via TaskStream. TWS requirements are included in the Appendix For information about special requirements regarding any part of the TWS including submission format, contact your advisor or program coordinator.
