Our future teachers can choose to specialize by many different age ranges or skills as well as in many disciplines ranging from English and Art to Music and Science. No matter what your specialty, you’ll study with dedicated faculty who are practicing teachers. And, our programs are fully accredited at the local, state, and national levels.
Interested in careers in education outside the classroom? Western students can also study to become school psychologists or educational administrators.
If you’re changing careers or already have a degree, consider some of WCU’s graduate or alternative licensure programs. Transfer students and community college transfers can get help from the admissions office to smooth their way.
Today’s licensure requirements can be tricky. That’s why Western leads the state in guiding teachers through the complex requirements for teachers: from admission, through field experiences, internships, and assembling a first-rate portfolio, to taking the pre-professional and subject tests. Our online Teacher Education handbook will assist you as you progress through each stage of your preparation.
