CEUs are based on 10 contact hours per one CEU. We can go to tenths but not hundredths. For example, you can have .5 CEU (5 contact hours) but not .55 CEUs (5 1/2 contact hours). WCU will not grant CEUs for less than 5 contact hours. CEUs are applicable to various licensing agencies. However, it is your responsibility to contact the agency to confirm that Western CEUs can be used at that agency. Certificates are mailed to the participant, not the agency.
Once the application is received, we will send it to the appropriate department head for approval (if applicable). Once the program is approved, registration cards will be sent to you. Your attendees will fill out the cards (preferably at the end of the workshop), and return them to you. The individual application fee is $15.00. You will need to collect the fee and card from each applicant then submit them to our office with one check for the total amount due made payable to WCU. We should receive both within 10 days of the workshop ending date. Certificates will be mailed within 10-15 business days.
Individuals must attend the entire workshop in order to receive any portion of the CEUs for which application is made. When your department or organization returns the individual application cards, you are certifying to us that the applicant did indeed attend the entire program.
How to Apply for Program Approval
All applications for CEUs must be submitted to the Division of Educational Outreach, 139 Outreach Center, Cullowhee, NC 28723. All programs must be approved prior to the delivery date of the workshop. Approval time may take up to 4 weeks. A detailed agenda showing dates, times, and program content is required. There is a charge of $50 per CEU application. Check should be made payable to Western Carolina University and returned with the application form.
A professional vita is required for each instructor.
The program coordinator will be contacted for any questions that may arise. Also, the CEU registration cards and the certificates will be mailed to the coordinator.
