Students from Mexico prepare food at a booth as part of Western Carolina University’s International Festival last year. |
WCU international students will set up booths on the A.K. Hinds University Center lawn and will share popular cuisine and information about their country. Miniature “passports” will be available for those who would like to visit the booths and receive a stamp from each country. The cost for food will range from $1 to $6.
Among the countries to be represented are Ecuador, Finland, France, India, the Netherlands, South Africa and South Korea.
Additional festivities include live bagpipes, a maypole dance, kendo and karate demonstrations, and a variety of international music. An antique and foreign stamp collector will be selling stamps from across the world, and Hmong artist Xee Yang will be selling her artwork. Other foods will include Indian fry bread, Italian sausage and funnel cakes.
The festival is free and open to the public. Sponsors of the festival are the International Programs and Services Office and various campus organizations.
