The musicians will be divided into two honor bands. Throughout the event, they will rehearse for their concerts and attend performances and master classes hosted by Western faculty and students.
The WCU Honor Bands will be directed by John West, director of bands at Western, and two guest conductors: David Waybright and Rodney Winther. Waybright is the director of bands at the University of Florida, and Winther is the director of wind studies at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
“We are excited to have two such prominent clinicians joining us this year to work with the visiting students,” said West. “I’m sure that all of the students will learn a great deal from them.”
Weekend performances will include the WCU Wind Ensemble, Friday at 8 p.m.; the WCU Symphony Band, Saturday at 1 p.m.; and the Honor Bands, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
All performances are free and open to the public and will be held in the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
