Outdoor Fun: Hike with a Botanist -
9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Thursday, July 16 
Spend the day enjoying a not-too-strenuous, but still invigorating hike with one of Western Carolina Universities resident botany experts learning about plant identification and the wondrous secrets of our Appalachian ecosystem. Maximum 12 people.

Eco-Adventures Day Camp -
8:30 a.m.-12 noon, July 6-10
WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center will offer a summer camp for backyard naturalists. This is a natural-history camp for children who have completed the 1st or 2nd grade. The program will allow children to explore insects, flowers, trees, and other aspects of our mountain environment. Each exploration culminates in art-based activities and the week includes a field trip to a wild area within Jackson County. Limit 12.

Mountain Mysteries Day Camp,
8:30 a.m.-12 noon, June 15-19
This is a cultural-history camp for rising 4th and 5th graders. The program explores the heritage of southern Appalachia beginning with the Native Americans and continuing through the pioneer experience. Children work on historic crafts, listen to a local musician, take a field trip to see local sites of interest, investigate artifacts, and generally have a lot of fun learning about the people who lived in this area 100 to 1000 years ago. Limit 12.
