Admission to the MCM Program

Requirements

To qualify for the program, applicants must:

1. Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university or its equivalent;
2. Demonstrate employment in managing projects;
3. Present an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination) score that meets WCU's admissions expectations;
4. Have satisfactorily completed approved prerequisite courses. If you have completed in your undergraduate degree one course each in accounting, business law, economics, and statistics, then you are complete. If not, you may take the ones you have not completed either from WCU online in the PM 500 courses or complete them locally at your community college or university.
5. Be familiar with word processing and commonly used business software applications;
6. Have Internet access.

This degree is a complete part-time online degree designed for working individuals. Each fall a new cohort of 30 students will start and move together through each course for six semesters (two years) completing individual and group assignments using an Internet-based educational software program that you can access 24 hours a day.

Application

To apply to the program, applicants must follow the steps below:

Step 1: Prepare the application items identified below and mail them with a $40 (U.S.) check or money order (payable to Western Carolina University) to the WCU Graduate School, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC, USA 28723-9022.

  • The online graduate application for enrollment
  • A copy of your resume, highlighting your background and experience in project management
  • If you are not a U.S. citizen, complete and include the International Student Information Form

Step 2: Request that an official transcript record (written in English) from each college or university you have attended be mailed directly to the Graduate School, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC, USA 28723-9022.

Step 3: Ask your employer to complete the Recommendation for Graduate Study form (PDF) and to fax it to the Graduate School, Western Carolina University, at 828-227-7480. For this program, only one recommendation is required, but make certain that it is from your employer.

Step 4: Register to take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) at a location nearest your home and request that your scores be sent to WCU, code 5897.

Step 5: Applicants who are not U.S. citizens and whose native language is not English, must present scores of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Scores should be sent to the WCU Graduate School.
