What if I have a special circumstance?
While the FAFSA is intended to determine the amount a family can reasonably be expected to pay (EFC) toward a student's college costs, occasionally situations arise that are not reflected in the FAFSA information. The Department of Education grants the Financial Aid Office the authority to use professional judgment on a case-by-case basis to adjust elements in the federal need analysis and/or the cost of attendance budget to take into consideration a family's special circumstances.
