Suzon Gautreaux Hawley, is originally from Houma, Louisiana (Cajun country) and was educated at Louisiana State University. She now makes her home in Asheville, North Carolina.
She has been teaching in the Department of Communication at Western Carolina University since 1993. Prior to her move to the mountains, Suzon taught oral communication at LSU and LSU-Shreveport. She has also taught at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, North Carolina.
Suzon runs the Reticent Communicator's Program at WCU, which includes teaching communication to those with a higher than normal level of communication anxiety. She derives great personal satisfaction from helping students discover lifelong skills which will help them in all areas of their lives.
