The WaLC’s Academic Skills Consultants (ASCs) are successful students who are committed to helping others achieve their academic goals. ASCs conduct workshops on a variety of learning skills, and they are available to meet with you individually to discuss your study habits and to offer strategies that you can incorporate into your daily routine.

Morgan Boles
Morgan Elizabeth Boles is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. She is originally from Lexington, North Carolina and hopes to return there to teach after graduation. Morgan is also a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and a member of Western’s Honors College. She enjoys being an Academic Skills Consultant (ASC) because it allows her to assist students in becoming better prepared and organized. Working as an ASC has also helped her to become more relaxed and comfortable within a classroom.
Paul Horton
Paul Horton is a secondary History Education major. Through his service at the Writing and Learning Commons, he hopes to help students pass their classes and stay in college through graduation. After getting his degree, Paul hopes to become a high school history teacher and teach AP classes. Paul is an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. In his spare time, he plays a number of musical instruments, but he isn't very good at any of them.
Kasey Jones
Kasey River Jones is from Franklinville, North Carolina. He is currently at Western seeking a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Mathematics. Kasey is a North Carolina Teacher Fellow who has always wanted to pursue a teaching degree. Besides being an Academic Skills Consultant for the Writing and Learning Commons, he is also a Peer Career Mentor for Career Services. He enjoys working in these positions at Western because they give him the opportunity to see other students succeed.

Jacob Richard
Jacob Richard is from Maiden, North Carolina. He is at Western Carolina University seeking a bachelor's degree in music education. In addition to being an Academic Skills Consultant (ASC), Jacob is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, a member of WCU's "Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band, and a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. Jacob chose to become an ASC because he wants to help his peers become successful in their academic endeavors.
Chantel Welch
Chantel Welch is from Iron Station, North Carolina. She is a North Carolina Teaching fellow who plans to graduate in 2012 with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a concentration in History. Chantel believes that everyone can be successful, and she hopes to help others develop the skills needed to achieve all their goals.

Tiffany Wenerd
Tiffany Wenerd is from Seven Lakes, North Carolina. She is a 2012 candidate for a bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Social Sciences and Language Arts and an additional reading license. Ms. Wenerd is a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and currently serves as the Hospitality Chair for Teaching Fellows at Western.
In addition to working as an Academic Skills Consultant, Tiffany is also a member of the Honors College, EnTOURage, and Alpha Xi Delta. Despite having many passions and activities to explore, Tiffany has learned to manage he time to accomplish all of her goals. She believes in striving to do her best in every aspect of her lie, and she hopes to help other students develop strategies that will allow them to reach their goals, no matter how busy their schedules may be.
