Justin Caudell, a junior at Western Carolina University and editor-in-chief of the Western Carolinian student newspaper, has been appointed to Global Newswire’s U.S. national editorial board.
Caudell (pictured) will serve on the board, which guides Global Newswire’s news coverage, through August. He is one of 20 college and university newspaper editors chosen for the editorial board and the only editor from a North Carolina college or university.
Global Newswire provides student publications with international news content designed to examine topics important to and reported from the perspective of college students. The service maintains news bureaus in countries on five continents.
“Because of Justin’s demonstrated devotion, professionalism and ability in the field of journalism, he was appointed to the national editorial board,” said Marc Thompson, publisher of Global Newswire.
In addition to serving as editor-in-chief for the Western Carolinian, Caudell has been a sports and weather writer for the Crossroads Chronicle in Cashiers for six years and has received four North Carolina Press Association awards.
“I’m extremely honored to be selected for this position with Global Newswire,” said Caudell. “To know that my work with the Western Carolinian and Crossroads Chronicle newspapers has been noticed outside of North Carolina is rewarding.”
Caudell, son of Richard and Rebecca Caudell of Sapphire, is a communication and political science major and is a member of the Honors College.
