The setting, climate and altitude make Western Carolina University an ideal location for summer study. Generally small class sizes and fewer students on campus contribute to opportunities for effective work and study while the beauty and lushness of the mountains in summer make for delightful recreation.
Western Carolina University offers a wide range of programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels during the summer sessions. Some of these programs are special to the summer while many are a continuation of programs offered during the regular academic year. WCU students can enroll in courses to complete Liberal Studies requirements or program requirements within their major or minor.
Summer courses are offered at our main campus in Cullowhee as well as at sites such Cherokee, Asheville, Hickory or Fort Bragg. You may take a course sitting at a laptop in your own living room, or on a trip in the U.S. or abroad. Take a course for personal enrichment, enroll in an on-campus program or a distance program. Visiting students may apply for admission to take courses for credit to transfer to their home institution, to satisfy professional requirements or for personal enrichment.
The Summer Calendar offers a great deal of flexibility with Summer Session Terms beginning each of the summer months of May, June and July and lasting in varying durations from 1- to 15 weeks in length.
