Construction Management - Major

What makes this program special?
The Construction Management program offers students the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technology and computer software that is industry standard while building management and communication skills to be effective leaders of the construction industry. WCU’s Construction Management program is in candidate status to be fully accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, which is the leading accreditation body recognized by the construction industry. This is a project management degree focused on the needs of the construction industry.

Are there any additional admission requirements?
No additional requirements are necessary beyond being accepted to WCU, but students are strongly encouraged to declare Construction Management as their major right away and start taking courses in the program since there are many specific courses required for graduation.

What scholarship monies are available?
All students are considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission. Additional scholarships are available based on FAFSA information. The Construction Management program has numerous scholarships available due to the high demand for graduates. Students can apply for scholarships ranging from $500 to $6,000.

What will I be able to do with this degree when I graduate?
Construction Management is in the top 10 of the most lucrative degrees in America. Graduates from the Construction Management program are currently almost assured 100% job placement and can expect an average starting salary of $45,000 per year. The average construction management graduate receives three or four job offers prior to graduation! You can choose to work indoors or outdoors or a combination of both. Positions exist across the United States, and some students start internationally. Most students work as project managers, estimators, cost engineers, schedulers, or superintendents managing large-scale construction projects. All segments of the construction industry, such as commercial, residential, highway, marine, airport, industrial, as well as developers, owners, and manufacturers, hire graduates.

What are the professors like?
WCU’s Construction Management professors have years of professional experience and advanced degrees in construction-related areas. They also are active in many industry-related organizations as well as advisors to our clubs and service projects. The Construction Management faculty are always available to assist with career planning and general questions.

What are the students in the program doing?
Recent WCU Construction Management students placed third overall in two regional competitions held in Charlotte, N.C., and have completed many community-service projects. Visit the our Construction Management website to see a full list of our student activities. WCU’s Construction Management graduates are hired by some of the biggest names in the industry. Will I be able to participate in internships, clubs and other extracurricular opportunities?
Construction Management students may join the Construction Management Club, which has group activities throughout the year. Upper-level students may be invited to join the International Honor Society for Construction called Sigma Lambda Chi. Each Construction Management major is required to complete at a minimum one full-time 400-hour internship in the construction industry. This can be completed during the summer, fall or spring semester. Students will work regionally or nationally for a construction company completing this internship. Construction Management majors also have two construction management–dedicated career fairs on campus where they may obtain either an internship or full-time position.
